Rental Cars Won't Need Transponders to Travel Through Sunpass Lanes

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Sept. 27 -- Many rental car customers traveling on Florida's toll roads and bridges are now able to utilize 'SunPass Only' lanes to pay their tolls, even without a SunPass transponder, thanks to a pair of innovative programs announced by Turnpike officials this week.

Rental car customers in Central Florida also can use the EPass lanes on toll roads operated by the Orlando- Orange County Expressway Authority (OOCEA), and will soon be able to use the LeeWay toll lanes in Lee County.

Florida's Turnpike Enterprise has entered into contractual agreements with American Traffic Solutions and Rent A Toll, Ltd. to administer a program which utilizes license plate information to identify rental vehicles and electronically collect the toll.

American Traffic Solutions is currently offering its PlatePass(R) cashless toll payment service to rental car customers using vehicles rented from Avis, Budget, and Hertz.

LAST night after her uncontested "victory" in Florida, Hillary Clinton was introduced by... Alcee Hastings, removed from by the Senate in 1998 after impeachment from* in the House, under a heavy cloud of suspicion of bribery when he was a federal judge. (A bit of the colourful background here.) Bill Clinton pardoned Mr Hastings' alleged co-conspirator on his last day in office.

Doesn't Ms Clinton have any slightly less dodgy-looking Floridian backers? Or if slightly suspect they must be, ones whose former associates had not been pardoned from federal prison by her husband?

Frontline: Iraq

I spend the precious moments I have to myself looking at your picture and trying to think of a day when we could be together. How have you been? Are the dodgers winning?

We got mail six days ago but I didn't get a letter from you. My mother sent some stale cookies, which we ate, and I got an Archie comic from Smiley. He doesn't read too good.

They say we might head back to France soon. The shelling here has slowed and the winter takes the fight out of everyone, Yanks and Krauts alike. I wouldn't mind going back to France; warm beds, wine, and cheese, and friendly people. Do you have enough money? I won some shooting dice. I know you told me not to gamble, but I see every day here as the luck of the draw, so why not?

A young guy, maybe 17, came to join us today. He looks so fresh, and scared.

President Clinton is coming to Austin

I hope ladies who are bent on casting their vote(s) for Hillary Clinton think long and hard with what is at stake. Hillary and McCain are not the caliber to interact with persons world wide. More of ther same.

<> Being bought persons they offer no change but much of the same. Sorry. Hillary hubby's pardoningof Marc Rich and Lieberman's guiding angry McCain as like a wheelbarrow.

<>An Obama presidency would excite peoples everywhere in a belief that the USA was once again on a path striving to be the hope of mankind. To have such a talented human rise up to become leader of the free world - what a message to send to one and all. Were he to pick Ms Clinton as VP then we would have :) two black presidents in the WH. I wonder if he could deal with Bill wondering if he would tarnish the surroundings as like previously being the case.

McCain looks confident; Democratic race tightens

A relative new comer and novice administrator, Roh was supported mainly by enthusiastic young voters who were dying for "change" of all the old systems and old politics. Roh promised hope for change. They young supporters used all kinds of digital methods to urge each other to vote and spreading the message to all others to go out to vote. He won. The "conservatives" were shocked. He employed lots of so nicknamed "boy scouts" for his inner circle, all wide-eyed idealists who vowed to turn Korea upside down, inside out by trying to make changes. The result was miserable. Roh was even abandoned by his own ruling party which itself split into two different parties. His rating went down steadily from overwhelming support of the voting public to a miserable low of less than 20%. The media treated him like dirt.

Chlorine tablets distributed in typhoid-hit Laguna villages

Duque said they would strengthen community health campaigns in Laguna to make sure that the residents maintain proper sanitation.

He urged residents to boil water and practice proper hygiene, especially those handling food, to avoid the spread of the disease.

Duque said the latest field bulletin showed that 1,262 people had been rushed to hospitals, with various typhoid-like symptoms.

Of the total, 27 cases were confirmed, while blood culture tests were being carried out on the others.

The DOH earlier suspected that contaminated water supply could be the primary cause of the typhoid outbreak in Calamba.

But Calamba officials have so far not traced the source of the bacteria, Duque said.

Most residents suspect contaminated drinking water as the source, but tests carried out by Calamba officials have "yielded negative results," Duque said.

Market latest: Australia

A US election year should also bring downward pressure.

OPEC countries recently called an extraordinary meeting in Vienna to debate targets and decided against lifting supply levels, citing the 10 per cent fall in oil prices. However, they also resisted cutting supplies. A global recession is not in the interest of OPEC countries so they are conducting a fine balancing act to maintain equilibrium.

Rain to ease food prices

A second positive is recent strong rains throughout Australia. This may rein in soaring food prices. However, this is likely to be short-lived. Grain inventories in the US have hit an all-time low as farmers divert food to bio-fuel production. Almost a third of this year's US grain crop is expected to be used for fuel and the price of grain is now tied to the price of oil – which as we noted may take a short-term breather.

Jail bird: Ferocious goose terrorizes north Chico street

Unknown to her at the time, neighbor Nancy Kelly had already called Chico police for help.

Tambe said the bird would alternately lunge at the screen door, and chase any neighbors who came near her home.

When a neighbor distracted the bird, and was then chased by it, Tambe said she was able to get the garage door closed.

She said police showed up and initially tried to corner the goose in her yard, herding it with a broom.

"The goose didn't quite go in the direction we wanted," she said.

Eventually, Sgt. Linda McKinnon grabbed the bird .
