| Blotter: ‘Secret shopper’ paid in faux money orders
A woman who lives on Melton Road near Justin told Denton County sheriff's deputies that she applied for a "secret shopper" job in a newspaper advertisement and received two bogus money orders in the mail. The woman said she was supposed to deposit the money orders in her account and then wire money through a local wire service. She was supposed to document her experience with the wire service and send the information to the "secret shopper" company, according to the packet she got in the mail. Over a period of time, she received two money orders for $2,850 each. She used the first money order before being notified by her bank that it was counterfeit and her account was being debited. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police were notified, since the money orders came from Canada.
Sitemaps Protocol Scaled For Cross-Host Support
Yahoo Search cited a couple of concerns from webmasters that led to this latest update. Webmasters wanted to be able to keep user-facing content separate from feeds, as well as the ability to manage a number of websites from one sitemap. "We hope this enhancement helps address those needs," the announcement said. .
CIVIC PRIDE: Glasgow's Lady Provost Sheena Duncan. Picture: James ...
You don't apply for it and nobody takes up references on you for it. My job is secondary to what the Lord Provost's agenda is, and I'm very happy for that to be the case: it's the way it should be. I wasn't elected - Bob was elected first by the people of Summerston, then by the Labour group and lastly by Glasgow City Council. That's a democratic process which I respect very much." This warm and charismatic woman - who prefers informality and introduces herself as Sheena - is quick to point out, however, that while she has a clear role to play as Lady Provost, she is still "independent in life, in thought and in mind" and is very active in her own field. "I don't sit about waiting for things to happen with the Lord Provost. I have a very busy agenda of my own," she says with a smile.
More air carriers turn stingy as costs escalate
MUMBAI: Life used to be in the lap of luxury for flight crews, until recently. They got to stay in the best of five-star hotels, savoured the very best food and moved about in company-owned luxury cars, between logging flying hours. Today, with costs going through the roof, airlines have been exploring every possible corner where they could cut costs. Scissors are being run through many of the frills, including lodging, boarding and conveyance. So much so, some airlines have started putting up their crews in guest houses to save on hotel expenses. Predictably, car rental allowances, too, are getting pruned. After all, in a low-margin business, every penny counts. And the austerity drive goes way farther. SpiceJet, for one, has even reduced the grammage (weight) of its boarding passes in a bid to trim costs.
Tesco has a flutter in Vegas
It is dog eat dog on Las Vegas's world-famous Strip as casino complexes such as MGM Grand and New York New York compete for attention with outlandish gestures like rollercoaster rides and a replica of the Manhattan skyline. But just a few blocks back from the neon glare the brash casinos give way to the more mundane chains such as McDonald's, Taco Bell and Walgreens, which line the boulevards that stretch back to the desert. It is in competitive retail markets like Las Vegas that Tesco is taking its biggest gamble yet by launching Fresh & Easy, a chain it believes has the potential to become as familiar a sight as 7-Eleven, which has more than 5,000 stores dotted around the country. On Wednesday five stores will open in Vegas, part of a first wave of 200 openings planned for the West Coast between now and the end of next year.

I hope it passes. Al, Hanover MD -I'm so glad our elected officials are spending our tax dollars on such important issues as this. Let sprawl destroy our rural landscapes, let pollution and overfishing kill the Chesapeake, let our children grow up obese and uneducated as long as we get those ornaments off the road...for surely nothing will ruin their psyche for life more than seeing a little tasteless humor! Might actually do girls some good to know what testicles look like, since this country has just about banned any kind of sex ed in schools!! Whitney, Arlington VA -Really? There's nothing more pressing to pass legislation on? To be vulgar, wouldn't a truck need to actually have testicles? Most cars don't have "bras"... some do. Are the ones that don't going to be pulled over for indecent exposure? The "Truck nuts" could be (aren't but could be) a place for storing 2 different sized hitch balls.... Jason, Minneapolis MN -This is totally ridiculous.

UNSCRUPULOUS developers are illegally demolishing historical homes in Port Elizabeth, and officials are turning a blind eye. In Villiers Road, Walmer, at least five houses have been demolished or partially demolished illegally during the past 15 months two of them for a parking lot. And despite complaints to the municipality and police by irate neighbours and the Provincial Heritage Resources Authority, no action has been taken against any of the developers. According to the National Heritage Act, the demolition of buildings older than 60 years must be authorised by the PHRA. The Nelson Mandela Bay municipality issues demolition permits to developers subject to obtaining permission from the PHRA. However, developers are bypassing this requirement and simply going ahead with demolition.
Tucson golf scene one-upping Scottsdale with a PGA Tour-driven resort ...
People try to make Tucson feel inferior to Phoenix-Scottsdale as often as Cooper Manning gets asked what it's like to be the only Manning brother without a Super Bowl ring. It's not always easy for Tucsonians to come up with a defense either. Their spring training teams are bolting like someone stuck in a bad date. The Chicago White Sox want to leave for Glendale (the Super Bowl stadium town in Phoenix's burgeoning West Valley) next year and join 11 other teams already committed to training in greater Phoenix/Scottsdale in 2009. There's a chance Tucson could be left with two teams and then the worry is, soon no teams. Tucson's also dealing with an I-10 freeway construction project that some locals fear could last almost as long as Boston's infamous Big Dig. It might already feel like it has if you get stuck in it during rush hour.

Hip-Hop Rumors: We Don't Need No Rumors Today!
I would like to quickly clarify what happened at the Kanye West show in California. Actually, it was a Common show that Kanye popped up on. Last week I said that Kanye dissed the Grammys. Well, it wasn't at the Anaheim show like I said. This apparently occurred at the Hollywood show at the House of Blues. I wasn't there so I didn't hear it or anything. Also, I heard that in a third verse freestyle, Kanye said “I beat 50." Thanks a lot, Peter!! (See the pics down below) EMINEM RUMORS FALSE There was another crappy Eminem rumor coming out that the Detroit rapper was going to be wrestling in the WWE. Shame on you if you believed that one. It was refuted faster than any other rumor in the history of man.

Hotshot rapper West leads everyone with eight nominations while British wild child Winehouse racked up an impressive six. ( Click here for Alabama's connections to the Grammys. Click here for Mary Colurso's column on the Grammys.) Despite the writer's strike, the Grammy Awards will go on, broadcast live on CBS at 7 p.m. Sunday from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Handicapping the winners always is a challenge. Grammy voters tend to be a conservative lot and not always in line with either critics or fans. However, they have been more unpredictable in recent years. Here are eight major categories likely to attract the most attention, with some predictions on outcomes and a critical look as to who deserves to win the categories in question: RECORD OF THE YEAR "Irreplaceable," Beyonce "The Pretender," Foo Fighters "Umbrella," Rihanna Featuring Jay-Z "What Goes Around .¤.¤.¤ Comes Around," Justin Timberlake "Rehab," Amy Winehouse Who Will Win: "Umbrella," Rihanna Featuring Jay-Z.

You don't get difference-makers without giving up talent, folks. Kotsay probably isn't the difference-maker that Drew was, but a healthy Kotsay is an outstanding defensive outfielder and class act who can hit .290-.300 with 12-15 homers, provide more veteran leadership, and be a terrific influence on Schafer and other young players.) By the way, Kotsay's had success in Atlanta, both in the majors (.292 average with nine extra-base hits and 12 RBIs in 106 at-bats) and the Olympics. The two-time college player of the year hit .303 (10-for-33) with four doubles, three homers, six RBIs and 10 runs for the U.S. at the '96 Atlanta Olympics. Batting order: So what will the Braves' batting order look like, assuming Kotsay is in it? I'm going to take a stab, though this could obviously change and I don't feel too certain about much more than the 3-4 slots: SS Yunel Escobar, 2.
