The current roster of 43 members for the alliance, which he says is the only trade group of its type in the nation, attests to the changing times. Country store owners everywhere "have to do a dance of whatever it takes to survive," Bathory-Kitsz said, and that isn't easy, given the presence of supermarket and discount grocery chains. But the current owners had confidence in their investment. "We knew what the business could become because of our marketing backgrounds," said Bearfield. "It's the old build-it-and-they-will-come notion. We decided on a series of bite-size changes, a slower approach that the community has responded to." The 800-square-foot store shoehorns in some 1,300 items, including grocery, bakery, and deli goods and gifts. The merchandise includes the familiar, such as bags of charcoal or cups of chili.
Chase ends with arrest
With the right front tire on the Gran Prix flat, the car continued to travel south on U.S. HIghway 41 and then attempted to turn right onto the dirt portion of Beech Street when the driver lost control and hit a large yellow and red sign in the Covington Motors parking lot at 1354 S. Main St. Godwin stated that the driver of the Gran Prix got out of the car and ran west on Beech Street. Godwin chased him on foot while ordering him to stop and to get on the ground. Bruner stood by with the three passengers while Godwin continued his foot chase with the driver. Godwin caught the driver, Zachary Desmond Rogers, 24, 310 Old Omega Road, E-11, in briars on the back side of railroad tracks. Godwin got Rogers on the ground and held him at gun point until officers Danny Hayes and Bobby Caton arrived and then Godwin handcuffed Rogers.
France may not answer Harper's call
We are fighting to help the country develop a civil society where the government is both democratic and able to defend itself from these terrorists. We are fighting for the rights of innocent civilians who have been subjugated by the thugs of the taliban and al quaeda. Perhaps in the result little girls will get an education and be able to read, and their teachers willl not be beheaded for having the audacity to think that little girls should get an education. I would think any self righteous left winger would be right there on these issues, but no - they are weak and afraid to see the forces of the west taking on these thugs. They would rather run and hide and hope the terrorists will not come here - which they already have -witness 9/11, London, Madird, Bali etc and their repeaed vow to destroy the west and commit further attacks on the west.
New-look Yokomine primed for Japan LPGA opener
Yokomine, who has changed caddies regularly in the past, hired John Bennett--David Smail's caddy--for the first two events of the season. It is the first time Yokomine has worked with a non-Japanese caddy since the 2005 Japan Women's Open. U.S. LPGA Tour rookie Ueda also will play in Okinawa. The youngest-ever money title winner has already played three tournaments this year, including the SBS Open in Hawaii, where she finished tied for fifth. Hoping to pip Yokomine for the money title will be Shinobu Moromizato and Miho Koga. Moromizato, who won her first major title at last season's Japan Women's Open, worked on her strength during preseason, including doing 1,000 sit-ups a day. "I didn't spare much time for training last year because I played in some tournaments overseas.
Lacy to retire as president at Kronos Inc.
The Ain brothers at Kronos Inc. are losing one of their right-hand men. Paul Lacy, president of the Chelmsford maker of labor-management software since 2005, announced plans to step down. "It's been a great ride," said Lacy, 60. "I'm looking forward to learning to relax and then actually doing it." Lacy is a 20-year veteran at Kronos. Before being named president, he was executive vice president and chief financial and administrative officer. He was the key player in terms of getting the company to go public in 1992, and the point man behind many of Kronos' many strategic acquisitions. During his tenure, Kronos grew from a company that made time clocks with $26 million in annual revenues to an enterprise software company that posted $662 million in revenues in its most recent fiscal year.
Air Force Contract: The real inquiry
Boeing has good cause to look comprehensively at the reasons for its loss of a huge Pentagon air tanker contract. We're far less certain Congress has the basis for any detailed examination. Certainly, Congress has an oversight function, mainly to assure itself that the competition was fair and open. The military contracting system is perpetually rife with potential for incompetence, shading the specifications and engaging in cronyism (note, for instance, the place on winning Northrop Grumman's board of Iraqi fiasco-enabling retired Gen. Richard B. Myers. Or, questions about the political bent of the winning state partners.) But barring revelation of the kind of blatant, exceptional corruption practiced by a then-Boeing executive and a Pentagon official during an earlier contract competition, the award of the contract to an Airbus-inspired bidding team will likely stand up to any challenge.

Wild Card/Vacation Day 11 of 12
Only two more shopping days until I return to the final days of the City Council campaigns. Then, we'll have fun taking apart the campaigns. Any dirt yet? Any mudslinging. You know, the good stuff. Or is everyone behaving? My wife is now looking over my shoulder -- literally -- so I have to pretend that I'm just checking ball scores. See ya in two days. Here's Wild Card ... .
